1. Since NOVEMBER, they have allowed airlifts starting in Jordan and Egypt. Those airlifts have increased in size over time to the point where the US recently took over and for their own reasons act like they originated those airlifts. No Arab country has been allowed before this to penetrate Israeli air space. This was a serious and almost immediate concession that often gets ignored. There's no delay there. 200 airlifts a day.
2. There are now THREE entry points from Israel allowing trucks and I believe now 8 countries involved in that. The last 2 were opened 4 weeks ago, or right about. No one is trying to delay, but a number of Egyptian truck drivers getting hurt and killed by people shooting them and throwing huge rocks at the trucks make obvious security concerns. I think delays due to that are reasonable. Every time they get more than 200 trucks in the place, the resistance to the help kicks up.
3. Yes, it's a war zone, most countries don't give aid to the enemy during a war, and it has to be especially hard to do that knowing the people want them dead and hurt and killed friends and loved ones. But they have humanitarian corridors that are guarded, risking their own soldiers to help people get to aid. I think they're doing work, but Hamas is stockpiling aid and worse selling it for huge prices. When the Israelis cleaned up Al Shifa Hospital again, a huge cache of food was found there. Astounding in size.
4. There have been attempts to give sea support again, since November but until the US figured out this temporary pier solution, these volunteer countries didn't consider it safe enough. We'll see even more going in now.
5. People have insisted the Palis have been starving since October 8th and they're all still alive and 99.99999999% look well fed and clean with nicely matched designer clothes. People can die pretty quickly from no food, within a a few weeks at most but most people are still alive and look fine.  Sending video when they say they have no power or internet. Always well-lit.
6. The West seems to be putting all the worse interpretations and omissions of truth on everything and it's making life dangerous for Jews and Israelis. As a Jewish American, I won't forget that.

Gazans receive more food than most people in the world do. They have a surplus of food. 

Unfortunately, Many Gazans do not have access to ice and/or refrigeration to keep food from spoiling, nor do they have proper facilities to cook. 

Distribution is also a major problem. with many Gazans having returned to combat areas.

It’s a problem, certainly. But Hamas is taking the majority of that aid. Palestinians rarely see the aid that is sent into Gaza for them. Hamas is stealing it for themselves and (from what I’ve heard) literally keeping it in protected warehouses instead of distributing it to the population. Gaza is a humanitarian crisis, but slowing down aid is just an attempt to keep it out of the hands of Hamas, not “genocide Palestinians”.

Also, I have a friends on the ground and I know that Israel deployed more then enough capacities to process the trucks. But there are other logistical problems: distribution inside, drivers are not wanting to go in, organization on the Gaza side, there are protesters on our side as well. Ideally if the tracks would come from trusted source, there is no need to search it

One of the biggest problems are that many entry  points were sealed since they were destroyed during attack of Gaza on Israel. 
So now it is only two, and aid comes from untrusted sources.
But at this point of time it is clearly that Israel applies the pressure to release the hostages through means of slowing down the aid.

At the same time though, international community and aid organization and UN doing nothing to press Gaza to release hostages. That tells Israel that they do not matter and nobody cares.

The biggest problem with your post is that Israel is letting aid in and Hamas is stealing it. There are Gazans complaining that there is a black market in aid being sold for prices that are much higher than they are supposed to be. There are videos of gazans throwing out aid packets. Your whole premise is wrong driven by Hamas lies. There are also many trucks waiting to enter but can't because of armed gangs waiting to steal the aid.

I think  Israel’s throttling of aid transit into Gaza is ia pressure tactic used in its negotiations with Hamas. There is more than enough aid going in, the only issue is distribution and the fact that Hamas is taking the aid, last week Israel killed a few of those Hamas people in charge of the aid and suddenly the food prices dropped significantly, don’t think that’s dumb luck or happened because Hamas has less control over these areas?

I've seen people write to you that there are many armed conflicts, or "problematic" situation around the world, and we can't spend attention around everything thus we need to prioritize.   


I'll give you another take on this -   
People siting in their homes in countries not in the conflict area usually know very little about the conflict itself, what are the beliefs of both sides and what are the way to solve the conflict. thus, often times - more attention and more reaction creates more harm than good.   


I can tell you that IMO, to a degree, the huge amount of attention and misinformed reaction over the Israeli Palestinian or Israel Arab conflict is done in a terrible way that only hinders peace between the sides. I can elaborate on that if you want to dig into this example, but it's not really the point.   


If you agree that misinformed reactions can cause harm, and there are a lot of things to react to - most of the reactions would be misinformed. Thus, it is not only about attention span and activist fatigue or political gains - it is also about creating less harm than don't. Of course it doesn't mean that nobody should ever pay attention or react to situations, this would be horrible, but IMO - over reaction could sometimes be worse than underreaction

Turns out that nobody really cares about the kurds and what’s been happening to them for generations so media doesn’t really cover that stuff. The real problem is ignorance. With the whole gaza thing, everybody on social media has something to say about it which is cool, great we’re talking about important things. You know what I noticed tho? the most radical people who are completely one sided in the conflict, are also the people who know least about the conflict. My theory is when people are too lazy to do like 30 minutes of research they just form a conclusion and will overreact to any piece of information. I tested this out by randomly interacting with someone i follow on ig who kept posting really weird stuff about the conflict and that person could not name a single historic thing that happened between israel/palestine, knew nothing about the wars with the arab league, nothing about death tolls, it was embarrassing.

The attention Gaza is getting is driven primarily by anti-semitism and hatred of Jews.

the problem with this conflict is that with the high attention span given to this conflict comes an emotionalisation of the conflict. People look less for pragmatic answers but much more for idealistic answers. And these are often not the best answers. I would agree with you, if the added time investment of people would generate better discussions a d problem solving approaches. But that’s simply not the case. 

I really think that it is important to be educated about conflicts otherwise people create pressure/ expectations that are negatively going to impact the situation in a conflict region. What we see in this conflict is that both sides abuse the heightened amount of attention for propaganda. IMO, the actual amount of attention given to this by people that have no connection and no education about the conflict is detrimental. 

I believe that I am (somewhat) educated about this one, I extensively travelled all of the area, have friends in all of the region and read really really a lot about it. Most of the things that emerge from “involvement” of people is hatred, anti-islamism, anti-semitism, anti-capitalism. While such a complex situation requires a non emotional multi-faceted response.

I would broadly say that people saying Gaza gets too much attention aren't complaining about the attention it is getting.  They are asking (sometimes directly, sometimes indirectly) *why* Gaza is getting more attention.

It doesn't make sense to say it is the scale of death.  If that was true, you would expect conflicts like the Congo to get a lot more attention (6 million deaths since the 90s).

It seems unlikely it is sympathy for Muslims in particular - there are genocides committed both by and against other Muslims populations that generate little attention.

The overreaction is when like San Francisco voted 8-3 for a ceasefire or how pro-Hamas protestors stopped their parade outside a cancer center to scream and shout and disturb the cancer patients.  They're just mad and bored and have no outlet.

Gaza is easy to care about online. You are telling a developed democracy spending hundreds of millions on missile interceptors to stop defending itself proactively and go back to passively waiting until Hamas manages to breach them  again. There is an obvious status quo to propose returning to (in their eyes, I personally think Israel shouldn't have to accept constant rockets and the occasional terrorist incursion). Siding with Gaza is a clear underdog which is a win for internet activists too.

Stuff like tribal conflict in Africa, shit going in Ethiopia, Ugyhur persecution in China etc are more complicated so less of an easy internet talking point. As with anything its a matter of ease and controversy.

Selective outrage is always suspicious. And I do question the intentions of people who are selectively outraged about Gaza after being asleep at the wheel for other conflicts with much higher death tolls.

As for whether or not we are underreacting to other humanitarian crises, I have mixed feelings about it. War is always tragic and sad, but pacifism and appeasement have consequences that may lead to even higher levels of death. The challenge is figuring out which wars are justified and which wars are not. Sometimes it is easy to make that distinction and other times it is more complicated.

People want to make a difference. Many of the other world crisis are in countries that don't care much about world opinion.  Israel cares about world opinion much more, and therefore may be more susceptible to be influenced by coverage of the conflict worldwide.

To a lot of people, the situation is much less complicated than other crises. The US gives Israel tens of billions of dollars worth of money and weaponry, and they've been accused of apartheid by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International and are currently defending an accusation of genocide at the International Criminal Court. 

"Stop giving them money" is a very simple ask, and it's one that can't be made in other humanitarian crises. We can't threaten to defund an earthquake. There's also a simple rebuttal to requests to condemn Hamas: we don't fund or support them ([Netanyahu, on the other hand, did](https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/)), so sure, stop sending US tax dollars to BOTH sides.

This is particularly prevalent in diaspora Jews, and I personally know people who aren't speaking to family members right now over the situation.

This may be a shitty take, but if you care about being a happy person... just ignore everything that doesn't directly impact you or your loved ones in your local area. 100 years ago we didn't know what was going on half way across the world. I feel this pretty accurate. Not a peep while the Rohingya are being blown up for returning to their homeland in Myanmar. Not peep when Turkey has been systemically cleansing the Northern Iraq area from Kurds. Not a peep when we still have a problem with Boko Haram raping and kidnapping young women from Nigeria. People, both individually and collectively, have limited attentional resources and can process a limited cognitive load. The public discourse can only focus on so much at any given time.

Overloading attention on global humanitarian crises for which the majority of people aren't directly affected and can't do anything about is a fruitless distraction from other things more worthy of their attention. It would suck up the focus from more proximate and more directly important issues closer to home. It may potentially allow domestic politicians to get away with more, with less accountability, both because the public isn't paying close attention and because it invites comparison with the worst humanitarian crises the world has to offer, so maybe they aren't so bad.

Going further, I think excessive attention and emotional investment in tragedies that are out of your control and have limited impact on you is mentally unhealthy. For many people, I would classify the Israel-Gaza conflict in this category (with obvious exceptions like if you're Israeli or Palestinian or live in the region or have family/friends who do etc).

Human beings evolved to be caring and compassionate because those were useful emotions when applied to the people around you, people with whom you were closely interconnected with. It helps build relationships, cooperation, and cohesion. Human beings weren't designed to care deeply about catastrophes happening thousands of miles away. If you can't do anything about it, and there's no impact on you which you need to keep in mind to adjust how you act, then it's not useful. And for most of human history, they couldn't expend emotional energy on faraway catastrophes. But now with modern technology, you can watch a HD livestream of children being murdered and it fools your senses so you put your attention towards it and you feel it as viscerally as if you were there in person, watching the slaughter of the people of your city or town or village except you're powerless to stop it. This is one of the core mechanisms by which social media erodes mental health.

If we are speak about military conflicts:As far as I understood, Israel/Gaza conflict is rather unique. Israel is seen as "civilized" country, they ALSO seen as bad one and they mostly agree their actions could be seen as bad but it's necessary for their survival and they don't really want any diplomatic solutions. All other conflicts are between "uncivilized" ones or all sides say they are doing Good Thing or at least saying they are open to negatiations.

I believe the greatest humanitarian crisis right now is happening on home turf. We're all too focused on what other people are doing and not minding our own lives. I believe anyone at war is at war with themselves. World peace would be possible if people had inner peace.

There are so many factors to consider in this, so I'm only going to speak in regards to protests and outrage. 

Firstly I'll point out the world's reactions to the Ukraine invasion and BLM, they were humongous and it felt like there was significantly less counter-discourse (i.e. pro Russian or anti-BLM). 

Now, the question of under reacting to other situations. You mentioned Sudan for example in another comment, I'll go with that for a moment. 

With the Sudan situation, it's been widely condemned by both the UN and many member states, sanctions have been imposed, war crimes investigations are underway, aid is being delivered, and some Western powers are intervening to deescalate. Not to mention Western powers are not (at least blatantly) funding what's happening, and there isn't a significantly cohort of people arguing that what is happening there is necessary, actually. 

Compare that with the Gaza situation. It's being directly funded and armed by many Western powers, Israel has not been widely condemned, sanctions have not been imposed, aid is being gatekept from entering Gaza, war crimes are not being investigated, and until recently nobody was really even thing to stop what's happening. 

Add on top of that the very significantly discourse to try and justify the aggression, misdirect from transgressions, and the strong West-facing propaganda campaign from Israel. Not to mention the brutal blockade that's resulted in the strangling of the livelihood of the people of Gaza, as well the fact they've been essentially living in a apartheid-like system for decades.

So, at least in my mind, there is significantly more reason to mobilize for Palestine than Sudan (and that applies to other conflicts too). Mostly to try and influence our Western governments to do something, anything, even matching what they are doing in Sudan. Obviously each situation is unique, but it's clear not enough is being done with regards to Gaza.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a whole got disproportionately more coverage than most others, let alone the current actual war in the Gaza Strip. It has many reasons for it, and most of them has nothing to do with the humanitarian crisis.

The religious aspect of it (Jew vs Muslim) rallies the religious people from both religions and parts of the Christian world as well. This is a huge population of the world (Muslim countries, and evangelical Christians, as well as Jewish communities around the world)

The “colonial” aspect of it (European Jews vs Arab MENA / white vs brown) brings a lot of attention from the rest of the formerly colonial occupied countries, and some colonial governments (SA for example)

It’s also a clash of the western cultures and ideas (equal rights, democracy and secularism) vs the eastern Arab culture (theocracy, tribalism, patriarchy) 

Let’s not forget its also a Cold War front (west vs USSR/russia), it used to be a British mandate state, the history Germany had to do with the creation of Israel and many others aspects, like good old antisemitism and the fact that Jews run the global media (see what I did there?)

What’s I’m trying to say is that, even without a humanitarian crisis, the area has a lot of foreign intervention and interest and therefore media coverage.

Mass media today mostly reports for two reasons (unfortunately): to have a lot viewers for ad revenue, and to shape the world view of their viewer. And inherently due to reasons I listed above this conflict brings a lot of viewers.

With zero disrespect to the tens of thousands of Somalis that died- no one cares about civil wars where both sides came from similar traditions, areas, colors and religions that decides to fight each other. It’s viewed as a local dispute not too different than a way for them to choose the next president- in the west it’s done via voting, in Africa via shooting the other side better. How much news coverage you get to elections in France for example? Pretty much the same as the Rohingya genocide, or the Syrian civil war. 

Should there be a dedicated channel to world disasters and humanitarian crises and you would have the screen split in 4 to be able to actually show all that is happening- the people will still won’t mind.

Last thing I would add, is that both Israeli and Palestinian are doing whatever they can to enlist people to their side even outside of traditional media - Israel is rich enough, and advanced enough to do it on their own, while the Palestinian side is getting help from the Muslim/arab world such as Qatar and Iran (also with their ties to China and Russia) which comes to show just how many hands are stirring the pot.

Sadly Gaza may get more attention than the Ukraine currently but its the wrong form of attention. This conflict is not seen as the terrible event it is for both sides but rather as something you have to chose one site over the other. Reddit and Instagram are full of these shallow "Free Palestine" posts and people just repeating what some bored celebs have to say. The attention should be focused on help and support. Instead it just got integrated in our global cultural battle which is a tragedy on its own.

The plural of crisis is crises. At least in the USA.

Saying Israel is at fault for HAMAS raping, kidnapping and murdering those people in October, btw is like saying rape victims are at fault for being attractive. If they weren't trying to attract people they wouldn't be raped.

The only "reactions" which are worth anything, are those that actually lead to positive change.

Getting angry with your friend because they slightly disagree with your views about a conflict on the other side of the world is not useful.

Allying with a hate group who literally want to murder your neighbors is not useful.

Someone in my town has been putting up signs telling people to boycott Jewish-owned businesses because Gaza. I think the person putting up those signs is *probably* a neo-Nazi, and is trying to stir up hatred against my Jewish neighbors. I do not think they are doing anything good for Palestinians.

Hamas' goals *do not* include protecting Palestinian civilians. If they did, they would consider following international law of war that is intended for protection of civilians, e.g. *not putting military installations in civilian hospitals and schools please.*

As a reminder, the reason that it's against international law to put military installations in civilian hospitals (or schools, or apartment buildings) is that doing so causes the civilian hospital to become a valid military target in wartime. Hamas doesn't give two fucks about Palestinian civilians, so they gleefully put military stuff in civilian places and blame the predictable results on Israel.

The militant organizations like HAMAS will never seek to improve the way of life in GAZA. Instead of focusing on war and spending millions to wage war . Why should they ? The squalid depressing conditions are ideal breeding ground and an endless source of recruits for their cause.

The reason Gaza is getting attention is that America is directly supporting the occupying, brutalizing, and humiliating colonial forces directly causing the humanitarian crisis. A tax payer has to ask whether they like that idea, and if they don't, they need to voice their concerns to politicians and vote accordingly if they don't want to be part of what is going on.

There is a difference between America not deploying troops all over the entire world to play decider in all matters and not spending billions on fixing the problems faced by people in every part of the world like starvation and disease simply due to pragmatic reasons versus America spending billions to make weapons to send over directly to the occupying, colonial force that consistently uses brutality, destruction, and humiliation as tools to expand territory the same way Russia does in Ukraine. I've never heard of any urban warfare where 50% of every single building in the entire country was blown up with missiles and 70% of every home in the country has been blown to bits. The reason? I guess it just depends on what point in the disinformation campaign by Israel you want to accept as totally and completely true no matter what. Was it used to launch a missile? Were there *tunnels under everything so we blow up everything*? Was it because their new AI system recommended the target, minimizing the impact humans have here? "Oh, it's just what the computer told us to do. You understand now."

To make this distinction clear, America spent a lot of WWII not getting into the war. They were considering things and figuring stuff out. They were defending themselves instead of defending every single person on the planet. These are regular actions. However, if America were instead actively funding the Nazi regime, that would push things into a direction where it should be on the news all over the place since, by that point, clearly something has gone awry in the political system.

The problem isn't the attention it's getting. It's the amount of misinformation being spread.

What's wild to me is the amount of protest and marches in support of Palestine. But nearly zero countries are willing to take in Palestinian refugees. That says more about what countries think than anything.

Even I fell prey to misinformation early on. I thought the Palestinian people were just as much a victim of Hamas as Israel was. Turns out the Palestinian people were in lock step with Hamas from the start.

Nobody is offering answers to the Palestine issue, they are just screeching.

1. There's nothing you can really do to change the situation in Gaza. Protesting isn't going to work, and ceasefire now only leaves more possibilities of future war
2. Humanitarian crisis is caused by Hamas, who started the war and committed some of the most atrocious war crimes, and are using Palestinians as human shields. But nobody who protests about humanitarian crisis is protesting to oust Hamas.

3. No Muslim countries nearby are willing to accept Palestinians, and why not protest about that? It's because they don't want to accept them themselves.

4. People are sick and tired of hearing about the conflicts. People don't want some temporary bandaid solution only to keep hearing about war there again. Hamas never had a chance, so might as well let Israel take control over Gaza to open possibilities of increased stability in the region.
